Nome is envisioned as the focal point for the, as yet unorganized, Bering Strait Local Emergency Planning District (LEPD), including Nome and all surrounding regional communities.

Mission Statement
We are a committee founded to create a forum made up of local citizens dedicated to improving communications and cooperation between local and regional entities to enhance our local and regional disaster planning and response efforts.

We will work together to discuss issues of relevance to our efforts, to develop methods to present our positions accurately to local, regional and state governments and others we deem necessary, and to help each other whenever necessary.


2001 Goals
** Maintain a full membership.
        - Publicly recruit for vacant positions as needed.

** Meet as a whole group at least one (1) time per quarter.
        - File all meeting minutes with quarterly reports to DES

** Coordinator or designee to attend all Quarterly SERC/LEPCA meetings.
        - Report back to local LEPC on those meetings.

** Seek and acquire grant funding for next FY's goals

** Establish a list of reporting EHS and Hazardous Substance Facilities and make list available to the general public.

** Enhance Public Awareness as to "What" the LEPC is and "What" our duties and powers are.

** Provide a local Incident Command Training (ICS) course.
        - Attempt to get some personnel trained as trainers in the ICS system.

** Review and update the Nome Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)

** Encourage the City of Nome to complete a Hazard Analysis Plan

** Work towards incorporating the surrounding regional communities into the Bering Straits LEPD.
