Mechanic
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, perform regular scheduled servicing and unscheduled repairs to light vehicles, and medium to heavy equipment owned by the city. Create a maintenance schedule for vehicles and equipment. Inventory parts and arrange for key parts and supplies to be on hand before they are needed. Assist Road Crew Foreman as Needed
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must be able to obtain a CDL within the first year of employment.
- Service city owned vehicles and equipment to include but not limited to oil, air, and fuel filters, tires, wipers, glass replacement, lights, and belts
- Estimate the time needed to do servicing and schedule servicing accordingly
- Make recommendations to Public Works Supervisor for needed repairs for city vehicles and equipment.
- Assist road crew with emergency repairs of heavy equipment including loaders, graders, dozers, excavators, snow blowers and trucks
- Create a summertime schedule to repair winter equipment for the following years snow removal
- Maintain a clean shop environment
- Performs other related work as needed.

- Strong mechanical skills including welding, electrical and hydraulics
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years related experience preferred
Specific Skills and Abilities to the Job:
- Extensive mechanical knowledge, shop safety habits and a strong understanding of power and hand tools.
- Ability to function with a high degree of independence, while following the instructions of Supervisor and/or customer
