Sergeant Hoang "Alex" Le

Hi my name is Hoang “Alex” Le and I’m Vietnamese-American. Before coming up to Nome, I lived in Southern California. I’ve joined the Nome Police Department in September of 2017 and have attended and graduated from the Alaska Department of Public Safety Training Academy in Sitka, Alaska.

Since then I’ve received training and certification in the ChildFirst-Child Forensic Interviewing, Advance Strangulation Investigation and Prosecution, Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Investigations, Reid & Associates Interviewing and Advance Interrogation Techniques, Exterior Response to Active Shooter Events and many more. Most recently I was promoted to the rank of Patrol Sergeant.

My goal is to serve the community of Nome to the best of my ability with honesty and integrity and to enforce the law without bias.

Hello, my name is Austin Martino. I was born and raised in upstate New York. I went to college in my home town achieving a Bachelors in Chemistry. I moved up to Nome in May of 2017 and live here full time. I joined the Nome Police Department in late 2019. Upon being hired I attended and successfully completed the Department of Public Safety Academy in Sitka. My training for the department is ongoing. My goal in the Nome Police Department is to serve the community and earn the public’s trust.

Officer Chelsea Griffin

Hi! My name is Chelsea Griffin. I was raised in Southeastern Georgia. I began my Law Enforcement career in 2015, and became officially certified in the state of Georgia by the Georgia Public Safety Training Committee in early 2016. I served in Georgia as a Patrol Sergeant, K9 Officer, Investigator and worked on a Tactical Narcotics Team. I came to Alaska in 2021 as a lateral transfer with the Bethel Police Department and obtained my certification through the Alaska Department of Public Safety with the Alaska Police Standards Council in 2022. I accepted a job with the Nome Police Department in 2023.

My certifications included Radar Operator, Lidar Operator, Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer, and Taser Instructor. I have experience and training in SART (Sexual Assault Response Team, Drug Interdiction, Community Relations, K9 Handling and Training, Sex/Human Trafficking, Interviews and Interrogations, Undercover Operations, Gang Identification, Elder/Child Abuse, Domestic Violence, and multiple other trainings. I look forward to gaining more experience and knowledge that will help me better serve the community of Nome. I strive to do my due diligence and foster a healthy relationship with everyone I come in contact with. Feel free to say hello if you see me out and about!

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, hiking, riding my motorcycle, and spending time with my family.

Officer Thomas Broady

Hello! My name is Tom Broady, and I accepted a position at the Nome Police Department in late 2023. I was born in Alaska, and raised between the Bristol Bay Borough area and Florida for most of my life. I began my law enforcement career in Florida as a deputy sheriff in 2014, and have been in law enforcement ever since. I began my career in Alaskan law enforcement in 2018 when I took a job at the Fairbank Police Department. I have been successfully certified in three states in law enforcement in my career: Florida, Alaska, and Pennsylvania (where I currently reside). I have been certified as a radar/lidar operator, Taser instructor, Glock armorer/advanced armorer, firearms instructor, and completed crisis intervention training (CIT). I have also received many hours of training in effective methods of community policing, de-escalation, interviewing and interrogations, and much more.

In my spare time, I love my time with my wife and son. I also enjoy playing piano, video games, and pretty much anything related to the outdoors. We have four dogs, one polydactyl cat, and eight chickens at home that are a wonderful part of our family. We plan on moving back to Alaska full time in the near future. I look forward to getting to know the people of the City of Nome, and earning their trust through honest and unbiased work!

Hello, my name is Sharon Sparks and I have lived in Nome well over 50+ years and currently employed with City of Nome as Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Victim Advocate for Police Department, going on 4.5 years. I have 20+ years of experience working in Human Services field serving and advocating for children and families (Child Protection, Legal Services, Head Start, Child Care). I have served as Board member for Regional hospital and Non-Profit consortium as well as Council member for local Tribe. I’m happy to be serving with statewide Citizen’s Review Panel past 2.5 years. My passion, commitment and dedication is to contribute to help in making positive improvements with goals through teamwork that I have the opportunity to serve.
